JOAN MCDERMOTT is a native of New England where she attended the Boston Museum of Fine Art. While traveling and living in Europe and parts of the United States as an Army bride, she had the opportunity to study, exhibit and compete. She has been recognized for her talent, receiving many awards to include five "Best of Shows."

Joan has had two solo shows and exhibits regularly in Central Texas at the Killeen Art Guild Mall Gallery, the Vive Les Art Center for the Arts, the Killeen Community Center and the Killeen Municipal Airport.

Locally she exhibits at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences and the DOW A.P. Buetel Building in Freeport, Texas.

She has served as President of the Killeen Art Guild for eight years and served on the Board of Directors for the Vive Les Arts Theater for six years. In the spring of 1995 she retired her drafting business of 14 years to devote more time to her art.

Joan and her husband have just completed a home on the Gulf Coast, where they plan to retire. Joan is member of the Brazosport Art League and the Galveston Art Center.

Versatile in many media, her colorful impressionistic style hangs in many private collections across the United States. When asked her purpose for painting, Joan replies, ”I just like to paint a happy memory for someone. "
