Brazosport Symphony Orchestra presents
Handel’s Messiah & The Nutcracker Suite!
Saturday, December 9
The Clarion at Brazosport College
The Brazosport Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will present two works that are as challenging as they are different for their Annual Christmas Concert with Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah.
American jazz legend Duke Ellington put his own jazzy signature on Tchaikovsky’s immediately identifiable Christmas composition. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker debuted in 1892. In 1960, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn arranged their own jazz version of the suite for Columbia Records. Tchaikovsky’s music is interpreted by Ellington with a fresh twist.
The second half of the concert is The Messiah, with the Brazosport Symphony Chorus. It was this performance two years ago that was the genesis of the chorus as the BSO decided that they would perform this work at Christmas every other year.
Tickets are available at The Center for the Arts and Sciences’ Administrative Office during business hours M-F
