The primary purpose of the Sea Shell Searchers of Brazoria County, a not for profit organization, is to provide educational opportunities for the scientific study and conservation of molluscs and other related fields.

Our May program will be a cover dish. Please bring something to share.

Election of officers will take place at the May meeting and the new officers actually take office in September. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the May meeting.

CALL TO ORDER: The April 6, 2004 meeting of the Sea Shell Searchers was called to order by president Wanda Coker.

SECRETARY'S REPORT: Motion by Leslie Crnkovic, second by Frank Petway to approve minutes as mailed in newsletter. Motion passed.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Wayne Humbird reported a balance of $15 more than last month.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  1. Membership: Steven Coker - contact Steven if you did not get a membership directory
  2. Newsletter: Wayne Humbird - the newsletter was mailed late; if you do not get the email that the newsletter is ready, check the website
  3. Hospitality: Freida White - next month is potluck, everyone bring a dish
  4. Museum Study Project: Roe Davenport - all new shells are in display
  5. Publicity: Irene Norris - still having trouble with The Facts putting in notice
  6. Auction: Wayne Humbird - date is September 18; Wayne is accepting donations
  7. Program: Steven Coker - next month is the year in pictures

OLD BUSINESS

  1. The Nominating Committee of Cliff Harris, Janey Nill and Rusti Stover presented their slate of officers: president: Steven Coker, co-vice presidents: Karen and Craig Latimer, recording secretary: Patty Humbird, corresponding secretary: Wanda Coker, treasurer: Wayne Humbird. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the May meeting.
  2. Brochures - Janey Nill passed around examples of the new brochure. Janey has put lots of hard work into the new brochure.
  3. COA committee had no report
  4. Club T-shirt committee had no report

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Wayne Humbird reported on possibilities for a new club URL. Membership gave input.
  2. Rusti Stover will have an article on shelling in the Houston Chronicle's Sunday Texas Magazine at the end of May or first of June
  3. Wayne Humbird has space for exhibits at the county fair.
  4. Frank Petway reported that John Wise has asked the club to participate with Houston Shell Club at Sea Space June 6 & 7.

ADJOURNMENT: As there was no business the meeting was adjourned.

PROGRAM: Steven Coker introduced a program on breeding redfish given by the Sea Center.
