The primary purpose of the Sea Shell Searchers of Brazoria County, a not for profit organization, is to provide educational opportunities for the scientific study and conservation of molluscs and other related fields.

President’s Message for the November Newsletter

Wanda is recovering at the local hospital after her recent surgery. Lets wish her well.

Field Trip: Dean Harris reported the local field trip on Nov. 8. Start at Quintana. If you need help call Dean. Meet at her

beach house 210 Sand Dune 10:00 for brunch then shell down to San Luis.

Nov. 22-30 trip to San Carlos, Mexico Thanksgiving week.

Call 849-9390 if flying let Dean know if you need transportation.

Festival of Lights-Nov 22nd

For those not going to San Carlos, we have been asked to do a demo shell 
show in the civic center as part of the festival. This is a trial run for 
next year's show. See Wanda or Patty if you would like to exhibit.

Minutes Oct 7th, 2003

CALL TO ORDER: The October 7, 2003 meeting of the Sea Shell Searchers was called to order by president Wanda Coker. A new member was introduced.

PRESIDENTS’S REPORT: A thank you gift was given to Jeannie Tiernert. Eloise Little has died. A card was sent. Sympathy to Dale Satchel.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Motion by Allen Satchell, second by Dave Barziza to approve minutes as mailed in newsletter.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Wayne Humbird reported a balance of 7125.47.

COMMITTEE REPORT

  1. Membership: Steven Coker reported new members.
  2. Field Trip: Dean Harris reported the local field trip on Nov. 8. Start at Quintana. If you need help call Dean. Meet at her beach house 210 Sand Dune 10:00 for brunch then shell down to San Luis.
  3. Nov. 22-30 trip to San Carlos, Mexico Thanksgiving week. Call 849-9390 if flying let Dean know if you need transportation.
  4. Dec 26 – 30 South Padre, let Dean know if you wish to go.
  5. 3. Hospitality: Freida White needs people to sign up to bring refreshments.
  6. Historian: Dale Satchell asked if you have any snapshots, etc give them to Dale.
  7. Publicity: Irene Norris put the notice in paper.
  8. Auction: Wayne Humbird reported receipts of $2392. 79.
  9. Program: Steven Coker will take suggestions for programs
  10. 7. Shell family program on Muricidae given by Patty Humbird. Next month Tina Petway will bring cones.

Old Business

  1. Brazoria County Fair: Patty Humbird reported on the fair. Thanks to Tina and Frank Petway for judging. We need help sitting, and are passing around the list.
  2. Shell show Wanda is taking applications, members may sell craft items $40 per table; everyone is invited to awards dinner. Choice of steak or chicken for dinner. Program is "Shelling in Paradise by Chris Takahashi. Food by Dean. Dealers are Kay Klause, Dave Green, Chris. Deynzers cannot come, Wanda will ask dealer on waiting list. Judges are Dave Green and Chris Takahashi and Dot Salisbury will be artistic judge. We need help with greeting, help in the kitchen, and craft table. Dean needs help Friday to set up and help cleaning up. Frank Petway explained the trophy that HCS is sponsoring, trophy is honoring Barbara Hudson; $25 for sponsors let Wanda know. Kay donated large coral pieces to decorate tables, which will be auctioned that night.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Club budget presented by Wanda Coker. Motion by Ian, second Steven
  2. by-law change Steven club is incorporated by state of Texas, agent was not doing paperwork. Need to assign an agent, will propose that treasurer become
  3. the agent to file paperwork

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  1. Frank announced that HCS is meeting at Houston museum of natural science, meeting night is changed from 4th wed to 4th Tues. until January. Nov is 3rd Tuesday meeting is at 7:30
