President’s Message for the October Newsletter

A special thanks to Wayne and Patty Humbird for a job well done on our auction. A big thank you goes out to all of our own members and friends who donated and purchased. The day was spectacular as we ate and visited, ate and bid, ate and visited, ate and then went out to eat.

We got off to a great start last month with a lot of food and fellowship. Wane did a wonderful job of sharing his COA 2003 pictures with us.

Speaking of COA … it was discussed last month about the Sea Shell Searchers hosting COA 2006. ALL members need to think about this because it will take ALL of us if we should make this commitment. A decision should be reached by February.

Members need to make a determined effort to attend the October meeting. Budgets need to be approved. Membership dues need to be paid. Applications for the shell show need to be turned in along with money for the awards dinner. The dinner is $10.00/person and you are encouraged to bring a guest. And, Members need to sign-up for the various activities at the Shell Show. Then if that is not enough, Steven Coker will present "Mollusk in Motion", a video that premiered at COA2003. You don’t want to miss it!!!

See you October 9th,

Wanda

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sea Shell Auction 2003 report

This year’s auction went off as planned and a good time was had by all. Darwin once again returned as auctioneer and did a fine job. Afterwards, the group went to the new "River" restaurant to celebrate.
This year’s auction had some really nice specimen shells and other unusual items thanks to the generously of our dealer friends and members. There were 87 oral lots and we came within $350 dollars of last year’s record total. Some of our big spenders were absent from this year’s auction and we missed them.
I want to give special thanks to Chris Takahashi, Brian Hayes, Showcase Shells, Kay Klaus and Femorale for the help they gave this year. I also want to thank Dave Green, Craig Latimer, Barbara Hudson, Cathy Betley and the HCS club for their help too.
