Battle of the Baton
Brazosport Symphony Orchestra’s musical showdown of the season has begun! Don’t miss your chance to be part of this exciting musical tradition and witness the ultimate competition for a truly memorable performance! But that’s not all — the leader with the most donations wins bragging rights as well as the extraordinary opportunity to conduct BSO’s enchanting rendition of “Sleigh Ride” at the upcoming December 14 concert! Each competitor will perform at the concert: 1st place conducts BSO, 2nd place performs the whip crack part, and 3rd place performs the sleigh bell part!
How to participate
Choose your favorite conductor by donating to Brazosport Symphony Orchestra and checking the box next to the name of the person you would like to see conduct “Sleigh Ride”. Then, make your donation by completing the form and entering your payment information. It’s that easy! Every contribution not only supports BSO and its mission to bring joy through music but also plays a vital role in empowering your candidate to inspire our community in an extraordinary way. The candidate who receives the most amount of donations will be the guest conductor. Note: Voting has ended for this year.
Meet this year's contestants
Jim Koch is a multiple award-winning band director and accomplished musician.
Joe Ripple is a former Brazosport ISD superintendent and current county leader.
Wes Copeland is the Executive Director of Brazosport Fine Arts Council and The Center for the Arts & Sciences.
Important dates
The competition opens November 1 and continues through December 6. We encourage you to purchase tickets for the concert on Sunday, December 14, to discover who will emerge as the winner of the “Battle of the Baton.” Tickets are available here, via phone at 979-265-7731 or at The Center’s Box Office during business hours (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
