Penguin Project

Empowering Young Artists with Special Needs

Brazosport Center Stages Penguin Project is a program for artists ages 10-21 with special needs. It provides an opportunity for children with special needs to develop creative skills related to the theater arts and participate in community theater.

The project serves to facilitate joint participation between young artists with special needs and same-age peers through a community theater experience. Peer mentors work side-by-side with their artist partners and assist throughout the rehearsal and performance process.

Through generous support from The Community Foundation of Brazoria County’s Lowrey Community Service Grant, Olin Corporation and Brazosport Rotary, BCS Penguin Project is proud to offer this amazing program! The Brazosport Center Stages Penguin Project provides a forum of interaction for the young artists, peer mentors, families and local volunteers through community theater.

2026: Shrek the Musical JR.

Founded in 2004 by Dr. Andrew Morgan and his wife Kathy, the Penguin Project has evolved from a single theater in Peoria, Ill. to multiple chapters across the country. Brazosport Center Stages is proud to be the first community theater chapter in Texas!

Gerrard Teen Guild – Monthly Meetings

Teen Guild is for teens ages 12 – 18 interested in theater, both onstage and offstage. We meet the 3rd Sunday of each month from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (except as noted below). We work on different theater skills to expose participants to all aspects of theater.

2025-2026 season schedule (dates subject to change):

Every summer, we have a 2-week theater workshop in early June that culminates in 2 fabulous performances. The students do it all: acting, lights, set, costumes and makeup. The cost is $225 for the workshop. Stay tuned for dates and information about registration.

Summer at The Center

Registration for Summer at The Center programs will open Friday, May 1 at 9:00 AM! Get more info. & register at the main Summer at The Center page!

Gerrard Teen Guild Workshop

June 1 – 13 (includes Saturdays) • 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Performances will be held Friday, June 12 at 5:00 PM and Saturday, June 13 at 2:30 PM.

Ages 12-18
Class fee: $225 per student

Children’s Music Theater Workshop

Session I • June 15 – 19 • 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Session II • June 22 – 26 • 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Performances will be held on Fridays at 1:00 PM.

Ages 7-12 (or completed 1st grade)
Class fee: $150 per student

*Attendees may sign up for only one session of music theater camp.

Children’s Drama Workshop

Session I • July 20 – 24 • 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Session II • July 27 – 31 • 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Performances will be held Fridays at 3:30 PM.

Ages 7-15
Class fee: $150 per student

*Attendees may sign up for only one session of drama camp.
