Brazosport Center Stages Swaps Out Final Two Shows

Freeport LNG Theater

Due to ongoing COVID-19 safety concerns, Brazosport Center Stages has made the decision to shake up their late spring and summer lineup, replacing the last two shows of the season with productions made up of smaller casts.

“Having Our Say” will replace “Brighton Beach Memoirs” as the late spring show and will run May 14-23. The play focuses on the lives of centenarian sisters Sadie and Bessie Delany and opens as they prepare a dinner to celebrate the memory of their father. Audience members will journey through the 20th century with the sisters as they recall the nation’s history, their own family’s heritage and careers as African American professionals.

This moving, two-person play is not solely about African American women, or even the fairer sex, but speaks to our shared American history and our future. Auditions will take place March 7 and 8.

“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” has been selected to replace “Peter Pan” as the summer musical and is slated for July 9-18. The musical comedy is based on Charles Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters, including Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and Patty.

The production focuses on a typical day in the life of Charlie Brown, his friends and his dog. Originally written in the 1960s, the show is timeless, humorous and charming as audiences connect with the beloved characters who continue to transcend popular culture. Auditions will be held May 10 and 11.

“As with everything this past year, Brazosport Center Stages has had to adapt to the ever-changing times and adopt a model of true flexibility within our organization and with our current season,” said 2020-2021 BCS Chair Craig Fritz. “Although it seems nothing thus far has gone as originally planned, I am confident we will turn out three quality productions for the rest of our 2020-2021 season. Please continue to check your emails and follow our social media accounts for continued updates. And when we safely can, we’ll see you at the Center!”

Set Builders

Once it is built, it is time to add detail and color to the set. Set painters of various talent and experience levels can contribute to this fun and satisfying task. Novices can apply basic “base coats” of paint while more accomplished artists can follow behind add the detail (color, texture, shadow and highlight). Bring the set to vibrant life by volunteering as a set painter!

Set Builders

During the time a Center Stages play is in production, set builders work on Saturdays (usually 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM) and, occasionally, during some weekdays, as volunteer availability allows. Volunteers should have a background in safe construction practices, including using various types of power tools. Though not necessary, set construction volunteers are encouraged to bring and use their own well-maintained and safe power tools. Wood is usually the most typical construction material, though occasionally other materials, such as metal, are used.
