We’re proud to announce the renovation of the display cases inside the BASF Planetarium dome, featuring new displays and new web-supported educational content for a wide range of topics!
Each display case has a QR code on the front glass of the case. Scanning the QR code with a smart phone leads to a web page containing a narrated video that discusses the topic in the display case. There is a narrated video for each display.
The web pages can also be accessed directly from the internet by navigating to the BASF Planetarium display case home page. Check out the home page and pick your favorite topics to see great stories!
As you enter the dome, cases to the left explore local wildlife and the solar system from the Sun all the way out to the ice giant planets Uranus and Neptune. The display cases to the right showcase the NASA space program and the classes of NASA astronauts who have undergone training in the planetarium.
The exploration of space continues with comets, dwarf planets in the Kuiper belt, the formation of stars, galaxies, and the structure of the cosmos. Deep in the corner of the dome is a display on Black Holes, and the modern study of gravitational waves.
The renovation of the dome displays follows the installation of a new lobby display that chronicles the formation of NASA and the history of the US Space Flight program. The timeline highlights the Mercury program and the Saturn 5 Moon missions, all the way up to the current Artemis program, Spacex, and the era of commercial space flight. Scale models of past and current rockets are on display. The display also showcases a panel of the history of unmanned interplanetary missions such as Voyager and Magellan, with models of these spacecraft on display as well.
