Cromwell maintains connection to The Center through giving

Kevin Cromwell has been involved with The Center for the Arts & Sciences in some fashion for most of his life. From school field trips during childhood to volunteering as a young adult, the former Lake Jackson resident has found a meaningful way to maintain his connection to The Center even after moving out of town.

Cromwell now lives in Houston but continues to generously support The Center through financial gifts. After donating to a Brazosport Museum of Natural Science project in 2022, he recently provided funds to allow Brazosport Center Stages volunteers to travel and perform at a statewide theater competition this spring.

“There is always so much going on at The Center, but it happens in the building most of the time,” Cromwell explained. “I saw this competition as an opportunity for Center Stages to take what they are already doing and be a part of broader cultural explorations. Events like this go beyond the walls and allow volunteers to be part of something bigger, and that’s important.”

When he lived in the area during early adulthood, Cromwell remembers utilizing the resource he had most readily to give…his time.

“I was a member of the Art League and also helped build and paint sets with Center Stages when my son was young, growing up here,” he recalled. “Getting to volunteer was both fun and rewarding, and it felt good to be a part of this community in that way. I don’t live locally anymore, but I want to be sure the people here, who I still consider my community, are well taken care of culturally. I had access to a lot of great things at The Center growing up, and I want to be sure people in Brazoria County continue to have access…and if possible, improve on it.”

Cromwell points to childhood lessons from his parents as the foundation for the motivation to give of his resources to local organizations.

“That was the start of it for me and now I’m at a point where I can give more significantly,” he said. “It’s so important to provide access to the arts and sciences for all members of our community. I want to see The Center grow and change with the needs of Brazoria County, so providing financial support is my way of helping that happen.

“I’m not a millionaire or anything, but that doesn’t stop me from doing things to make a difference in the world. I think it’s the same philosophy as the people that first started The Center, and we need to keep it up. There are so many people who have benefitted from The Center over the years who have the ability to step in, give and help grow the programs they find important. It’s the best way to make an impact that will truly last.”
