“Story Building” writing workshop with Ron Rozelle set for March 1-3

Join award-winning author and longtime creative writing teacher Ron Rozelle for Story Building, a three-day, in-person writing workshop this spring at The Center for the Arts & Sciences! Slated for March 1-3, the intensive workshop will focus on what makes good stories work, from short stories and novels to memoirs, scripts and nonfiction.

Registration is $100 for Center members and $125 for non-members. REGISTER ONLINE or call us at 979-265-7661.

Beginning with a successful and proven storytelling blueprint, Ron will share the techniques he’s employed in his books, both fiction and nonfiction, and show how to work them into writing projects. Participants will receive clear instruction, including the effective employment of literary elements and how to weave episodes together with a specific overall theme, as well as abundant examples.

Writers will also be invited and encouraged to share their writing plans and experiences, learning from other participants with the common goal of telling a great story. Story Building will be an upbeat, instructive and fun experience for both new writers, longtime writers and everyone in between.

Details: The workshop will meet from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Friday & Saturday and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday. There will be a brief lunch break on Friday and Saturday, so participants may bring a sack lunch or leave to pick something up. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

About the instructor: Ron Rozelle is the author of eleven books of fiction and nonfiction, including the memoir Into that Good Night, a short list finalist for a national PEN prize. He taught English and Creative Writing for many years, has led numerous writing workshops and was a presenter at various writing conferences. In 2007 he was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters.  In 2017 he was honored as the Sam Houston State University Distinguished Secondary Educator of the Year, the highest honor bestowed by the College of Education of his alma mater.

He and his wife Karen, also a retired teacher, recently moved to Sugar Land to be closer to their grandchildren and the Astros (maybe in that order). More information about Ron and his work can be found on his author website.
