Brazosport Fine Arts Council, the charitable organization that operates The Center for the Arts & Sciences in Clute, Texas, announced today that it has earned a coveted Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most respected evaluator of nonprofit organizations. This top rating places the Council among the most accountable, transparent and well-managed nonprofits in the United States. “A Four-Star rating tells donors that if this organization aligns with your passions and values, you can give with confidence,” Charity Navigator notes in its scoring report.
“This recognition means a great deal,” said Wes Copeland, executive director of The Center. “Though we believe we have an important and compelling mission, ratings like this help us cut through the noise in a crowded world. They tell our community — plainly — that we are responsible stewards of every dollar entrusted to us.”
The Four-Star designation is based on a 96% overall score, placing The Center at the top of Charity Navigator’s performance scale.
The score is derived from four “beacons” in the organization’s Encompass Rating System™, weighted as follows:
- 60% – Accountability & Finance
- 25% – Impact & Measurement
- 10% – Leadership & Adaptability
- 5% – Culture & Community
Charity Navigator’s methodology is built around two core objectives:
(1) to help donors make informed giving decisions, and
(2) to spotlight and celebrate nonprofits that excel in financial health, impact, leadership, and community engagement.
Their evaluation draws on research, sector analysis and user feedback to produce a comprehensive, data-driven examination of nonprofit performance.
“These ratings confirm what our supporters have long known,” Copeland added. “We operate with rigor, transparency and a relentless focus on our mission.”
The Center is located in Clute, just south of Houston near the Gulf Coast, and offers a unique blend of visual arts, performing arts, science education and community programming across multiple disciplines. The organization’s operational model relies heavily on community support, grants, memberships and donations — making financial stewardship essential.
