Painting Pet Portraits
Painting Pet Portraits with Glenn Cernosek
July 8 & 9
9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
BAL Studio
Learn to paint pet portraits, step-by-step, from photo reference. Glenn will demonstrate his approach and guide you as you paint your pet or paint the same pet as Glenn. You can then use this approach for painting your pet. You will also learn the secrets of the old masters to draw the subject more accurately on your painting surface. Glenn will demonstrate in watercolor and talk about how the oil painters should adjust their oil paint to dry quicker, (use odorless mineral spirits, paint in thin washes and avoid white in the initial layers.
Each day, Glenn will demonstrate each step and then pause as the students will complete that step in capturing a realistic likeness.
If you are painting your own pet, you will need an 8″ x 10″ photo of your pet. The image needs to be sharp and show the patterns and direction of hair growth. If you choose to paint the same subject as Glenn, he will provide you with the sharp photo, as well as another copy to use for drawing and a transfer sheet to get the image on your painting surface.
Classes each day are from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM with an hour off for lunch.
