“She Kills Monsters” Auditions

Brazosport Center Stages and Brazosport College Theatre Department present “She Kills Monsters” auditions on September 19, 20 & 21 at 6:00 PM. Auditions will be held in the Seidule Theatre at Brazosport College – 500 College Blvd., Lake Jackson, TX 77566.

THE STORY: Average Agnes is finally leaving her childhood home following the death of her sister Tilly. However, when she stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, Agnes embarks on an action-packed adventure to discover more about her geeky sibling than she previously cared to know. A heartwarming comedy about loss, bullies, and dragons!

SEEKING:

We are looking for truthful, funny, physically adept performers – including BIPOC, gender-fluid, and trans actors.

Tilly: Lead, A fantasy fanatic, nerdy, sarcastic, occasionally bullied and appears to Agnes – after her real-life death – as a powerful level 20 Paladin. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Especially interested in Gender-Nonconforming, Non-Binary, Genderfluid actors. Midwest accent. Role involves moments of intimacy with Lillith.

Agnes: Lead, Tilly’s older sister, a high school teacher dealing with Tilly’s death, described as average and clueless to nerd culture. She eventually learns to embrace her inner bad-ass and lets her geek flag fly. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Chuck: Lead, Nerd with a half grunge rock and half Comic Con sensibility, runs a comic bookstore. Was friends with Tilly. As Dungeon Master he goes by “DM Biggs.” Considers himself a ladies’ man. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Miles: Lead, hunky and occasionally confused. Has a temper. Agnes’ “long-term” boyfriend but hasn’t made the big leap. Also plays a mean gelatinous cube. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent. Has moments of intimacy with Agnes.

Vera/The Beholder: Lead, High school guidance counselor; Agnes’s best friend. Blunt, foul mouthed, and short tempered. She’s not very good at her job. Also, a beholder. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Lilith/Lilly: Lead, Popular girl next door and headmaster’s daughter in her real-life and heroic and sexy Demon Queen in fantasy. Described as “the perfect combination of beauty and brawn.” Tilly’s in-game girlfriend. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent. Role involves moments of intimacy with Tilly.

Kaliope/Kelly: Lead, An athletic Dark Elf; spell caster; described as “rocking lady hotness,” collected, older soul. Often the compass of “logic” within the group. Emotionally detached in the world of the game but wears her heart on her sleeve in reality. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Orcus/Ronnie: Lead, Overlord of the Underworld, a lazy demon that has given up defending his treasure in favor of watching TV and snacking on Easy Cheese. May be a fan of a certain recreational herb. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Evil Gabbi: Lead, Evil bully succubus winged cheerleader with fangs. When at school, the same, minus the wings. Has a talent for dishing the harshest poison with sickly sweet tones. Dance and stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Evil Tina: Lead, Evil bully succubus winged cheerleader with fangs. When at school, the same, minus the wings. Have a talent for dishing the harshest poison with sickly sweet tones. Dance and stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Steve: Lead, A nerdy adventurer; in the fantasy world, he’s constantly finding himself getting killed in increasingly violent and humorous ways. In reality, he’s constantly finding himself getting shut down and pushed over in increasingly humorous ways. Stage combat history a plus, but not required. Midwest accent.

Farrah the Faerie: A faerie that lives in a forest; evil, homicidal, kind of a jerk. Stage combat and gymnastic or cheer history a plus, but not required.

MONSTERS NEEDED! We will about six additional actors to play various non-speaking monsters, zombies, ogres, etc. Anyone may request to be considered for a part as a monster; if you are new to acting and would like to get a feel for being onstage, this may be an ideal opportunity. Some stage combat is involved for all monsters; comedic dancing may be involved for some monsters.

She Kills Monsters contains scenes of mild intimacy and cartoonish violence. All safety and professional rules of IDC and the SAFD will be followed during rehearsals and performances. There will be no intimacy or violence at the auditions.

Note: Participating in Brazosport College Theatre productions is worth college credit. By participating in a production, you will automatically be eligible to receive college credit and a scholarship Credit is awarded for participation in productions. Actors are encouraged to take advantage of this fact! Full semester scholarships are available.

PREPARE: Fill out the audition form at: https://forms.office.com/r/qYUpSszjSQ Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to move. After a brief, fun movement exercise we will read sides from the script.

REHEARSALS: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM, September 26 – November 3. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal.
