Lakeside Starry Night

BASF Planetarium has joined up with Angleton Parks & Recreation to offer Lakeside Starry Night on Friday, April 12 from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM at Lakeside Park, located at 1234 Enchanted Oaks Drive!

View the night sky through telescopes, learn about constellations and create your own star wheel. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Partial Solar Eclipse at BASF Planetarium

Local skywatchers are invited to observe the solar eclipse at BASF Planetarium from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Monday, April 8. This event is FREE and open to the public!

 

The eclipse will begin locally at 12:18 PM when the moon will first touch the sun’s edge. At 1:38 PM, viewers will experience the maximum eclipse when the moon will be closest to the center of the sun. The eclipse will conclude by 2:59 PM when the moon will leave the sun’s edge.

 

Eclipse glasses will be on sale for 2/$5 at the planetarium during the event. Please remember that it is never safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing.

How to Use Your Telescope Workshop

BASF Planetarium’s How to Use Your Telescope Workshop is slated for Saturday, February 17 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM. The workshop is free, but space is limited to 6 people/parties so RSVP soon! Planetarium volunteers will work with attendees to learn to set up their telescopes, basic operations and a few tips and tricks.

Scholastic Bowl, Cosmic Mashups to headline BASF Planetarium’s February lineup

BASF Planetarium has some exciting programs planned for February, including everybody’s favorite trivia competition, Scholastic Bowl on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 PM in the Dow Arena Theater. In addition, the How to Use Your Telescope Workshop is slated for Saturday, February 17 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM. The workshop is free, but space is limited to 6 people/parties so RSVP soon! The Astronomy Club is back and open to all ages of astronomy lovers! Meetings will take place at 2:00 PM on the second Saturday of each month. The group will meet in February on the 10th. Please join us!

 

Planetarium Shows

 

A brand new planetarium show, Cosmic Mashups, will be shown at 7:00 PM every Tuesday (2/6, 13, 20 & 27) and the 4th Friday (2/23). Learn about galaxies, the super massive black holes hiding in the center of these galaxies and the gravity that holds it all together in this fulldome show.

 

The planetarium is open from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Friday afternoons, with a show slated for 1:00 PM. This month’s offerings include:

  • 2/2 – Artemis: Forward to the Moon
  • 2/9 – The Dark Matter Mystery
  • 2/16 – Moons: Worlds of Mystery
  • 2/23 – To Worlds Beyond: Journey Through the Solar System

 

It’s time for family fun on Saturdays, as Star & Space Story Time kicks off at 12:30 PM with a different children’s book each week. Then at 1:00 PM, see the following shows:

  • 2/3 – Max Goes to the Moon
  • 2/10 – Earth, Moon & Sun
  • 2/17 – Accidental Astronauts
  • 2/24 – Perfect Little Planet
