Earth, Moon & Sun planetarium show

This planetarium show explores the relationship between Earth, Moon and Sun with the help of Coyote, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how Earth, Moon and Sun work together as a system and learn to distinguish between myths and science.

Learn the basics of fusion and solar energy and why the Sun rises and sets. Examine the Moon’s orbit, craters, phases, and eclipses. You’ll even take a look at past and future space travel to our Moon … and beyond!

Star & Space Story Time

Lakeside Starry Night

BASF Planetarium has joined up with Angleton Parks & Recreation to offer Lakeside Starry Night on Friday, April 12 from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM at Lakeside Park, located at 1234 Enchanted Oaks Drive!

View the night sky through telescopes, learn about constellations and create your own star wheel. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Partial Solar Eclipse at BASF Planetarium

Local skywatchers are invited to observe the solar eclipse at BASF Planetarium from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Monday, April 8. This event is FREE and open to the public!

 

The eclipse will begin locally at 12:18 PM when the moon will first touch the sun’s edge. At 1:38 PM, viewers will experience the maximum eclipse when the moon will be closest to the center of the sun. The eclipse will conclude by 2:59 PM when the moon will leave the sun’s edge.

 

Eclipse glasses will be on sale for 2/$5 at the planetarium during the event. Please remember that it is never safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing.
