Brazosport Center Stages’ production of MOLLY SWEENEY, the first show of the 2020-2021 season, was selected to allow our community to come together safely — with its small cast and minimal set, this is the perfect show to take out into the community! By utilizing beautiful public outdoor amenities in both Clute and Lake Jackson, developing safety plans for audiences, and by selecting plays that allow for social distancing of the volunteer actors while keeping the artistic integrity of each play, we hope to offer an evening out for audience members who may be hesitant to purchase a ticket and watch a play indoors.

The public outdoor performances of MOLLY SWEENEY by Brian Friel will be offered free of charge during our inaugural Plays in the Park/Plays on the Plaza series. On September 18 and 19 at 7:30pm, MOLLY SWEENEY will be performed at Clute Municipal Park; on September 25 and 26 at 7:30pm, at Lake Jackson Civic Center Veterans Memorial Plaza. Both of these shows will be presented outdoors with ample space for social distancing.

All matinee performances will be held in the Freeport LNG Theater at The Center.

THE STORY: Three points of view about a poignant drama are related by three characters addressing the audience directly. First there is Molly, blind since early infancy, who describes her world before and after an operation to restore some of her sight. Her husband, Frank, who pushed Molly into this operation, relates his view of his wife’s journey into sightedness and his dealings with her doctor. Molly’s once-famous eye surgeon, Mr. Rice, watches both Molly and Frank and reveals his opinion of them along with his own fears in handling the operation. Through it all we see each character’s painful and happy histories, their memories and the events that led them to meet. Their stories interweave on stage, threading in and around each other’s lives, until the unexpected and touching conclusion to this striking tale.

Cast of 3 to 6 adults.

Please register for one audition spot and check your email for the Zoom meeting link.

JULY 27 & 28 • 6:30 PM • ZOOM ONLY.
