Brazosport Planetarium hosted “Real People, Big Astronomy”, a live Zoom experience with astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor (pictured above on the bottom left and far right) at an observatory in Chile, on Friday, February 4 in BASF Planetarium. The Facts featured the event on the front page of today’s (2/9) Brazos Life section in “Groundbreaking astronaut shares her story as part of as part of ‘Women in Space’ celebration” and included a few pictures of the presentation and attendees.

The Facts featured Brazosport Planetarium’s upcoming February programs on the front page of today’s (2/2) newspaper. The write-up includes information about the new February show, “Wonderful Women: Women Enter Astronomy”, shown every Tuesday evening and the 4th Friday of the month in BASF Planetarium.

The story also previews “Astronomia en gran escala”, the Spanish version of “Big Astronomy”, slated for Thursday, February 3 and the live Zoom program with astronaut and space pilot Dr. Sian Proctor on Friday, February 4.

“Real People, Big Astronomy” with Dr. Sian Proctor

  • Refreshments at 5:45 PM (CST), followed by a FREE live Zoom program with Dr. Sian Proctor at 6:00 PM (CST).

Dr. Proctor is a geoscientist, explorer, space artist and astronaut. She was the mission pilot for the Inspiration4 all-civilian orbital mission to space, the first of its kind. In this event, we will learn about Dr. Proctor’s varied career path and her three-day mission in Earth orbit, in which she became the first African-American female pilot to fly in space.

Dr. Proctor will share stories from her incredible adventure and answer questions. The program is expected to last 45 minutes to one hour.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is being limited to 50 visitors and masks are required. Extra seating will be available to facilitate social distancing.

Brazosport Planetarium kicks off 2022 with “Big Astronomy”

Brazosport Planetarium is kicking off the new year with its January show, “Big Astronomy: People, Places, Discoveries”, on Tuesdays (January 4, 11, 18 & 25) at 7:00 PM in BASF Planetarium. A special showing of “Astronomia a Gran Escala” in Spanish is slated for Thursday, January 6 at 7:00 PM.

This award-winning show was funded by the National Science Foundation. It highlights the diverse people who enable discoveries at world-class observatories in Chile.

The planetarium is ALSO offering family-friendly shows at 1:00 PM on Saturdays in BASF Planetarium on January 15, 22 & 29. Possible titles include “Perfect Little Planet”, “Dawn of the Space Age” and “Apollo: The Next Giant Leap”.

Tickets are free to planetarium members. Non-member tickets are $5/adult and $3/child.
