Brazosport Museum of Natural Science’s upcoming Hurricane Carla event featured in The Facts

September 11 marks the 61st anniversary of the day one of the 20th century’s most destructive storms, Hurricane Carla, pummeled the Texas coast. Brazosport Museum of Natural Science is commemorating the day with a program on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 PM in the museum, which was featured today (9/7) in The Facts.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science to commemorate Hurricane Carla’s 61st anniversary

Whether you lived through Hurricane Carla or not, chances are you’ve heard the stories about the devastation the Category 4 storm caused along the Texas coast. Considered one of the most destructive hurricanes of the 20th century, Carla brought winds in excess of 170 miles per hour and resulted in 43 fatalities and more than $325 million in damage.

Join Brazosport Museum of Natural Science on Sunday, September 11 at 5:30 PM for a program commemorating the 61st anniversary of the day Hurricane Carla made landfall in our area.

The program includes a 25-minute video featuring never-before-seen footage of Freeport and the nearby chemical plants after the storm, including aerial film shot from a helicopter and on the ground. See what neighborhoods looked like, as well as city of Freeport landmarks and the flooded chemical plants. A former president even makes an appearance on his visit to the area.

This program is FREE and open to the public.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science’s Dino Day featured in The Facts

More than 1,100 people attended Brazosport Museum of Natural Science’s Dino Day on Saturday, August 6 at Lake Jackson Civic Center. Co-sponsored by the City of Lake Jackson, the event featured Dinosaur George and his traveling prehistoric museum and dino-themed crafts.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science’s 2022 Dino Day is back and better than ever this year, as the museum teamed up with the City of Lake Jackson to welcome Dinosaur George and his traveling prehistoric museum to the Lake Jackson Civic Center on Saturday, August 6. The Facts published a preview story, “Dino-might! Dino Day 2022 brings traveling exhibit to Lake Jackson”  on the front page of the Entertainment Extra section on Friday, August 5.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science’s Cormier featured in Brazos Monthly

The Facts’ monthly magazine, Brazos Monthly, featured Brazosport Museum of Natural Science curator of malacology, Janey Cormier, in the November issue which is available now.

A reporter and photographer came to the museum in October to interview Cormier and take photos of her with the displays she has curated for the museum.

Shell Christmas Ornament Craft Day

Calling all crafters! Brazosport Museum of Natural Science is planning a Shell Christmas Ornament Craft Day for adults (18+ only) on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. The event is FREE but is limited to the first 25 people to register.

Slime Day Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30

Let’s get SLIMY! Slime Day is back at Brazosport Museum of Natural Science from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 30. Join us and learn about the slimiest creature around…the slug! Plus, make slug slime to take home.

Children ages 5+ are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of Slime Day.

Admission is free but reservations are REQUIRED for children, as this event is limited to the first 100 children to register. (Parents/guardians do not need to register themselves.)

New Safety Policies Established for Dino Day

Due to the increasing local rate of infection from the COVID-19 virus Delta variant and our expectations of a large turnout for this weekend’s Dino Day at the Brazosport Museum of Natural Science, please be aware of our following safety policies:

* All visitors, volunteers and staff in public areas must be masked, regardless of vaccination status. This includes children ages 3+.

*Visitors are required to preregister using our ticketing system. (Registration is FREE!)
