Brazosport Art League is opening a new gallery exhibit, Texas Heat, just in time for summer! The show features pieces in various mediums from close to 20 female artists, all members of the Women’s Caucus for Art of Texas. The exhibit runs Tuesday, June 6 through Sunday, July 2.

BAL chairman Ron White said members of the league have been looking forward to the show since it was first planned.

“We’re very excited about the Texas Heat exhibit opening in the gallery,” he said. “This is a very diverse group of women artists. We hope members of our community will come see the show and support these talented artists and their work.”

Teen Studio Time exhibit opens in Brazosport Art League gallery

Students in Brazosport Art League’s teen art class, Teen Studio Time, opened their annual exhibit in the gallery on Tuesday, May 9! The bold and bright show, Some Call It Chaos…We Call It Art Class, features art created by the 40 students in a wide variety of mediums ranging from watercolor and oil painting to glass mosaics and clay.

Join the students, their family & friends and BAL instructors for an opening week reception on Friday, May 12 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in the gallery. Meet the artists, see the art and enjoy snacks & drinks. The show runs through Sunday, June 4.

Led by art instructors Linda Strickland and Mark Cameron, Teen Studio Time is open to 13 to 18-year olds and meets weekly on Tuesdays throughout the fall and spring semesters. Session 1 runs from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM and Session 2 meets from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, which allows for both homeschool and public/private school students to attend.

Strickland says the popular class allows the young artists to flex their creative muscles.

“We hold the reins loosely at Teen Studio,” she says. “Besides cleaning your brushes, we don’t have many rules except to respect yourself and others. And we give them permission to make a mess…it’s hard to create art without making a mess!

“About half the class are returning teens who have been in the program two to four years and they are a great example for the teens entering the program. We see them relax and open up as the year progresses…and then the magic happens! It’s tough being a teenager but for two hours out of their week, they have a place they can express themselves through art projects.”

Tickets to the gallery are FREE. To help us record visitor demographics, please register for free in The Center lobby when you arrive or pre-register online. Hours of operation are 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday.
