Local artist, photographer and graphic designer Charles Jesse Miller has an eye for all things beautiful, whether it’s in a portrait session, out in nature or creating digital illustrations. Now, he’s bringing his work to Brazosport Art League gallery in his exhibit, “Humans & Nature”, which opens this week and runs through November 13.
The exhibit is generously sponsored by BayStar Group.
Miller is hoping to dial up the traditional artist’s opening reception and is planning an all-out celebration to launch his show on Friday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM in the gallery. In addition to previewing the 60+ works of art on display, attendees will enjoy food, drinks and music.
When taking photographs of people, Miller said his focus centers on one thing.
“I’m always trying to get the subject’s personality to come through their eyes, so that’s the most important thing I focus on,” he explained. “My technique in portrait photography is to use light to shape the subject in a way they have never been photographed before. I like to use dark backgrounds and heavy shadows.”
As for his focus on the show?
“I will be showcasing the amazing people I have worked with over the years,” Miller said. “I want it to make them happy to see themselves on the wall of a gallery and be able to show their family and friends.
“My hope is that people come out, enjoy the art and have a good time. It has been rough for a lot of us during the last few years. Hopefully this exhibit will bring us back into the world of art that has been absent for so long and yet is so important.”
Tickets to the gallery are free, but reservations are required and can be made in advance online or when you arrive. Hours of operation are 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
