Join artist and instructor Sherry Shelton for a weekly art class, meeting from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Thursdays in the Brazosport Art League studio. The class will feature instruction on a wide range of mediums, including: drawing with graphite on paper, oil painting, portraits, watercolor, pastels, acrylic, sculpture and egg tempura. The class is open to beginners on up and artists ages 14+. Monthly fees are $60 for Brazosport Art League members and $75 for non-members. Students are responsible for bringing their own supplies. Kidz Art Class

Spring 2024 Kidz Art! Kidz Art meets Thursdays from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, beginning January 11 – May 9. Class will not meet March 14 or March 28. Ages: 8-13 Class limit: 16 students ART is FUN! This class teaches the 7 Elements of Art (line, color, shape, space, texture, value & form), creative expression with a variety of drawing and painting techniques (pencil, colored pencils, pen and ink, acrylic, watercolor, etc).

Lessons include a sketchbook assignment, featured artist or art history, focus and discovery. Instruction by art educator Linda Matheson.

The tuition is $75 per semester, which includes all supplies.

Kids Studio Spring 2024

Spring 2024: Kids Studio! Kids Studio meets Thursdays from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, beginning January 11 through May 9. Class will not meet March 14 or March 28. Ages: 7-12 Class limit: 16 students

Children, ages 7 to 12, are invited to join Dorothy Dean, Art Teacher for this class. In Kids Studio, we will be covering a variety of pieces focused on everything from the seven elements of art to Aboriginal dot painting. Every week your student will bring home with them a completed art piece, inspired by a set project but combined with their own personal style and flair. Mediums used in class will include but are not limited to pastels, acrylic, water color, pen and ink, collage, and colored pencils. All supplies are included.

The tuition is $75 per semester, which includes all supplies.

Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how Earth, Moon and Sun work together as a system and learn to distinguish between myths and science. Learn the basics of fusion and solar energy and why the Sun rises and sets. Examine the Moon’s orbit, craters, phases, and eclipses. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM and the Sunday matinee starts at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $16 per person. The Penguin Project serves to facilitate joint participation between young artists with special needs and same-age peers through a community theater experience. Peer mentors work side-by-side with their artist partners and assist throughout the rehearsal and performance process. Through generous support from The Community Foundation of Brazoria County’s Lowrey Community Service Grant, Olin Corporation and Brazosport Rotary, BCS Penguin Project is proud to offer this amazing program for the third year in a row! Join Brazosport Center Stages for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang auditions on Monday & Tuesday, May 20-21 in the Freeport LNG Theater! Show dates are July 12-14 &19-21. Registration/check-in is from 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM, with auditions starting at 6:15 PM. If needed, callbacks will be on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 PM. Please print and fill out the Audition Form before you arrive, if possible. Check out the tentative Rehearsal Schedule. CAST NEEDS: Director David Hill is looking for a company of approximately 35 actors, singers, and dancers to bring this summer’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to life. The cast list includes 8 adult male and 3 adult female roles, as well as 2 juvenile leads --- 1 boy and one girl whose ages range between 8 and 13. Other adult and children will be cast for various ensemble roles. Come with a song prepared, preferably one from the show. If you plan to sing a song that is NOT from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, please bring sheet music. You will also be asked to dance as well as read dialogue. Closed-toe shoes are preferred for dancing purposes. Sides will be available at The Center administrative office after May 1. Please note: The race of the characters is not pivotal to the plot. BCS desires to provide theatrical and cultural experiences for our audiences and cast members that are reflective of the community that we serve. As always, backstage and technical crews are needed. ABOUT THE SHOW: Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas, based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming's children's book! An eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties, including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher. Filled with amazing stage spectacle and unforgettable songs, including the Academy Award-nominated title song, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a high-flying, fun-filled adventure for the entire family.
