Brazosport Art League presents annual Open Juried Show in gallery

It’s time again for Brazosport Art League’s annual Open Juried Show in the gallery, featuring art by both BAL members and local artists. The exhibit features numerous paintings in various mediums and a handful of sculpted pieces. The show opens Tuesday, August 9 and runs through Saturday, September 10. A reception and awards ceremony is slated for Friday, August 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in the gallery.

Artists submitted work in the following categories: hand-created work on canvas or panel, hand-created work on paper or yupo, photography printed on any medium, mixed media wall-hung, 3D free standing and digital created art. Art was judged by Houston artist Lauren Luna. Winners will receive ribbons and cash prizes.

ABOUT LAUREN LUNA:

Lauren Luna was born in Columbus, Ohio.  After graduating from Kent State University’s School of Fine Arts with a focus in painting, she moved to New York City.  She began teaching Special Education for New York City schools and entered a Masters program at Manhattan College.  Upon graduation, she moved back to her hometown of Columbus along with her son and continued teaching. Later she enrolled in the Academy of Art University for her second Master’s degree, in Fine Arts.

In 2011, Luna relocated to Houston, Texas, pursuing her new life as a full time artist.

In 2015, after winning Best of Show at a juried art competition, she was commended by the Alvin Independent School District School Board, and was put into Congressional Record by the District’s State Representative.

She is a frequent participant to local art festivals, has a mural at the George R. Brown Convention Center, and was recently subject of a proclamation by the Mayor of the City of Houston, that July 11th, was Lauren Luna Day!
